The app transcribes audio privately on your device using the HushBook Engine, without uploading to the cloud or requiring an account. Does my audio ever leave my phone?
No. Transcription runs completely on your device with the HushBook Engine. There is no upload, no account, and no server. After a one-time engine download, the entire app works offline.
Where does the synchronized text come from?
HushBook generates it using the HushBook Engine on your device from your audio. There is no lyrics database. The first run on a long book takes some time; after that, it appears instantly each time you open it.
What file formats can I import?
MP3, M4A, M4B, AAC, WAV, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, OGA, AIFF, AIF, MKA and ALAC. Chapters in M4B files are automatically detected, as are cover art and metadata.
Does it drain battery or strain my phone?
The engine is thermally aware. It limits its work threads and pauses between sections to keep your phone cool, and automatically resumes if a long transcription is interrupted.
Can I read in the dark?
Yes. Dark mode replaces the blurry cover background with a calm dark surface, and the Vision profile offers high-contrast themes like white-on-black and amber-on-black.
