Unsent Text Messages is a free platform that collects anonymous unsent text messages in one place. Users can read messages from others that were typed but never sent, or sent and then unsent. The platform also allows people to write and submit their own unsent messages anonymously. Each message is shown styled like it would appear on a phone—written, ready, and never delivered. Many messages deal with heartbreak, grief, loss, family conflict, and mental health, while others are tender expressions or apologies. The platform serves as a space for people to say what they couldn't say out loud without the risk of actually sending it.

Shopper questions

What is an unsent text message?

An unsent text message is one you typed out but never sent, or sent and then unsent a second later. It could be an apology you couldn't bring yourself to send, a confession to a crush, the last thing you wanted to say to an ex, or a message to someone who's no longer here to read it.

Why would someone write an unsent message?

Writing an unsent message can help you say what you couldn't say out loud, without the risk of hitting send. Reading other people's unsent messages is a reminder that the things we hold back are often the things we have most in common.

What content policy applies to submissions?

Users should not submit last names, phone numbers, addresses, usernames or anything that identifies a real person. Messages containing threats, harassment, hate speech or content that encourages harm are not permitted. All messages are moderated.

What topics do the unsent messages cover?

Many messages deal with heartbreak, grief, loss, family conflict, mental health and other difficult subjects. Some contain strong language which is masked. The site is intended for adults and readers 13 and older.

How can I request removal of a message?

If you believe a message identifies you or someone you know, or infringes your rights, you can email hello@unsentmessages.org with the link to the message and they will review it promptly.
