About this launch
Undertone is a color analysis app for iOS, iPadOS, macOS, and Android that helps painters, photographers, interior designers, and game developers understand color structure in images. The app provides four layers of analysis: a palette showing dominant colors sized by their proportion of the image, color harmony identification (complementary, analogous, triadic, etc.), a temperature map revealing warm-cool structure, and value structure showing light-dark relationships. All analysis runs on your device with no images uploaded to servers. The free version includes the original view, temperature and value maps, saturation map, and palette and harmony for every image with 20 analyses stored at a time. Premium adds composition guides, contrast maps, tinted value bands, and unlimited history.

Shopper questions
What is color temperature?
Color temperature describes how warm or cool a color is. Warm colors lean toward yellow, orange, and red; cool colors lean toward blue, green, and violet. Temperature is relative—a yellow-orange is warm next to blue but cool next to red-orange. In painting, the interplay between warm light and cool shadows creates the sense of actual light on a form. Undertone maps temperature across your image so you can see the warm-cool structure your eye feels but cannot isolate.
What is value structure in art?
Value is how light or dark a color is, independent of its hue. Value structure is the pattern of lights, mid-tones, and darks across an image. A painting with strong value structure reads clearly from across the room, while weak values make it fall apart regardless of color beauty. Undertone automates the process of squinting to see this structure by stripping color and dividing the image into clear value zones.
What makes Undertone different from other palette extractors?
Three things: proportions showing how much of each color is present, not just which colors exist; four layers of analysis (palette, harmony, temperature, value structure) that together reveal things single layers cannot; and painter-friendly color names like Yellow Ochre and Burnt Sienna rather than fantasy names or poetic descriptions.
Does Premium carry over to another device?
Your Premium belongs to your App Store or Google Play account. Open the Premium tab, tap Restore purchase, and use the same account you bought with. No separate login is needed. Apple and Google are separate stores, so a purchase on iPhone does not carry over to Android.
Composition: which guides does it show?
The ones that fit your image, best match first. Undertone checks the classic guides, from the golden ratio and the rule of thirds to symmetry and leading lines. It shows those it finds, so each image gets its own set.
