Matita is a collection of over 300 pencil-style icons available as SVG and React components. Each icon is generated from code-based recipes of simple shapes, drawing them the way a pencil would, with natural imperfections like overshooting lines, crossing corners, and overlapping circles. The same icon name always draws identically everywhere, making the set consistent and reliable. Icons can be customized by size, stroke width, and color, and come in both ink and pencil variants with adjustable grain texture. The entire library is free and MIT licensed.

What it does

  • React components with customizable size, color, and stroke width
  • Pencil variant with adjustable grain texture from 0 to 1
  • Small bundle sizes: 0.5 KB gzipped per icon, 67 KB for all by name
  • Consistent rendering across server and client with no hydration mismatch

Shopper questions

Are the icons hand-drawn?

No. Each icon is a short recipe written by hand, and a small program draws it in a pencil style. The wobble is intentional and comes from code, not manual drawing.

Is AI involved?

No. It is a plain algorithm consisting of about 90 lines of code and a tiny random number generator, with no machine learning model or training involved.

What does the same every time mean?

The wobble is not random on each render but comes from the icon's name, so the server and browser draw exactly the same strokes. This ensures no hydration mismatch, no flicker, and repeatable snapshot tests.

Does it still read at 16 px?

Yes. Every pencil habit has a cap to keep icons usable at small sizes. At 24 px a line bows by less than a pixel and the pencil character shows from about 32 px up.

Is it free to use?

Yes. Matita is MIT licensed, free for personal and commercial projects.
