SubjectiveZero is an agentic node editor for creating live visual effects on macOS. You describe an effect in chat or wire a prompt into the graph, and AI agents generate connected nodes written as real Swift and Metal code that render immediately in the viewport. Every node is editable source code you can open and modify by hand. The interface provides fluid controls for iteration, including knobs before you ask for them, and agents can build custom controls like meters or draggable handles on nodes themselves. You can split, merge and rewire nodes without friction. Projects export to the browser as single HTML files that run on any device using JavaScript and WebGL.

What it does

  • Real-time code generation with Swift and Metal
  • Editable source code for every node
  • VJing and live audio visuals support
  • Projection mapping with corner-pin and grid warp
  • Hardware integration with cameras and MIDI
  • Browser export as single HTML file
  • Support for multiple AI models
  • Deterministic agent workflows
  • Video recording with sound
  • Custom node controls and UI cards

Shopper questions

Does it work with the AI subscription I already have?

Yes. You can connect your eligible ChatGPT plan directly or use a coding agent like Claude Code with your own account and rate limits. The app does not ship a model or resell tokens. A routing profile can hand routine work to a cheaper model so only the hard parts pay for the top tier.

Can I use it for VJing and live audio visuals?

Yes. Sound comes from any audio input, mixer, interface or the Mac's own audio, split into frequency bands and an onset detector for triggers. You can bind MIDI or OSC controls to any parameter, pop the output fullscreen on a second display, and record the set with sound in one press.

Can I do projection mapping?

Yes, for flat and gently curved surfaces. Corner-pin and grid warp are built-in nodes with draggable handles on the node itself, and a popped-out viewport goes fullscreen on the projector at its own resolution. Advanced projection features are on the way.

What does it actually generate, and can I edit the code?

The app generates real Swift and Metal code for each node on macOS, or JavaScript and WebGL for browser projects. Every node is editable source code you can open and change by hand. The agent and your edits operate on the same files, and you can record renders as video files with sound.

Can I use it for commercial work?

Yes. What you make in SubjectiveZero is yours, and nodes, graphs and projects are explicitly not covered by the AGPL, so client work, commercial productions and live shows need no separate licence.
