The tool provides real-time preview with a FLOW Score to rate pattern quality before export, supports over 60 embroidery floss brands including DMC, Anchor, Cosmo and Madeira, and includes a text generator with 48 stitch-friendly fonts for adding names and letters. Patterns can be exported as printable PDFs with symbols, thread legends and stitch counts, or tracked stitch-by-stitch in the app. Designing and editing are free; PDF downloads require a one-time payment. Shopper questions

How does Stitchmate compare to other cross stitch software?

Stitchmate is a browser-based alternative to desktop programs like PCStitch and WinStitch. In a side-by-side test at default settings, Stitchmate left 79% fewer confetti stitches than StitchFiddle. It also includes a FLOW Score for measuring pattern quality, exports Pattern Keeper compatible PDFs, and runs on Mac, Windows, iPad, and Chromebook with no download.

Is there a free cross stitch pattern maker?

Yes. Stitchmate is free and runs in your browser. Convert photos, design patterns from scratch, and preview PDF exports without paying or creating an account. The free plan keeps up to 10 patterns at a time, and downloading the final printable PDF is the one thing you pay for.

Can I add custom text, names, and letters to a pattern?

Yes. The editor's text tool lets you type any name, date, quote, or custom message and render it in stitch-friendly fonts, and each letter maps cleanly to the grid. Use it for personalized gifts, samplers, monograms, or bookmarks.

Can I make a cross stitch pattern from a photo or picture?

Yes. Upload any photo, picture, or image and Stitchmate converts it into a counted cross stitch pattern. Adjust the size, number of colors, and thread brand, and see the result update in real time before you commit.

Can I sell patterns I create with Stitchmate?

Yes—patterns you create are yours. For commercial use, you need the Plus Pass, which includes a commercial license.
