CMYK2Pantone provides free online tools for converting between color formats used in design and printing. The main converter transforms CMYK process color values into approximate Pantone spot color matches, helping designers and printers find the closest standardized reference colors. The site also offers additional converters between CMYK, RGB, and HEX formats, along with interactive color charts and reference guides. All tools run in the browser without requiring registration or downloads.

Because CMYK (process inks) and Pantone (spot colors) create colors differently, conversions are approximations. The site emphasizes that users should verify results against physical Pantone swatch books before production printing. Educational guides explain the differences between color systems and when to use each for different print and design workflows.

Shopper questions

What is CMYK?

CMYK stands for cyan, magenta, yellow and key (black). It is the color model used in most commercial printing, where four inks are layered in percentages from 0 to 100 to create a wide range of colors. CMYK values describe how much of each ink is used.

What is Pantone?

Pantone is a standardized color matching system created by Pantone LLC. Each color has a name or number, such as Pantone 485 C, so designers and printers can specify exactly the same reference color. Many Pantone colors are printed as spot inks mixed to a set formula.

Can CMYK be converted to Pantone?

Yes, but only approximately. There is no exact formula between the two systems, so a converter compares CMYK values with a set of Pantone reference colors and shows the closest match. The result is a nearest match, not an identical color.

Is CMYK to Pantone conversion exact?

No. Pantone spot inks can produce some colors, such as very bright or metallic shades, that CMYK inks cannot reproduce. Paper, ink, press and screen settings also change how a color looks. Treat any conversion as a close match and confirm it against a physical Pantone guide.

What is the difference between CMYK and Pantone?

CMYK builds colors by mixing four process inks in tiny dots, which suits photos and full-color printing. Pantone references specific standardized colors, often printed as dedicated inks, which suits brand colors and packaging where consistency matters. Pantone usually costs more to print because it needs an extra ink or plate.
