About this launch

Caldera is a social network that visualizes your GitHub repositories as a living city and your Obsidian vault as a living profile. Sign up with GitHub and your public repos, profile, and activity automatically populate your page with no installation required. Optionally connect Obsidian to add a daily journal, activity score, and private note sharing with friends.
The platform emphasizes privacy by default. Code is never accessed, and with Obsidian, your identity is a cryptographic key stored locally in your vault. You control what appears publicly through toggles and markup, and shared notes are end-to-end encrypted.
Caldera is free and open source. The plugin runs on Windows, macOS, Linux, iPhone and Android. You can self-host your profile or run your own hub using the open protocol. Help credits earned by assisting others have no cash value.

Shopper questions
Do I need Obsidian?
No. You can sign up with GitHub and get a page and a city with nothing to install. You can add Obsidian later and keep your page.
What does Caldera read from my GitHub?
Caldera reads your public profile, public repos, their languages, weekly commit counts, and public activity. Private repos only appear if you install the Caldera GitHub app and choose specific repos. It has read-only access to repository metadata and cannot open your files.
Who can see my notes?
Only what you publish. Your vault is read on your device; Caldera publishes only sections you switch on and notes you mark caldera: public. Notes shared with a friend are encrypted so only that friend can read them.
Is it free?
Yes. Your page, your city, the plugin and friends are all free and open source. Optional paid features like a hosted AI journal and custom domains may come later.
Can I host it myself?
Yes. You can export your profile to a vault folder to get a static site for any host, or run your own hub. The protocol is open.
