Timeline Visualizer
Turn your Google Maps Timeline into an animated travel video
Free online tool that converts Google Maps Timeline exports into animated 9:16 travel map videos, rendered entirely in your browser with no uploads or app
About this launch

Timeline Visualizer is a free web-based tool that transforms your Google Maps Timeline location history into shareable animated travel videos. The tool processes your Timeline.json export entirely in your browser, creating videos with your route revealed behind a moving marker, live date and distance counters, and optional background music. It supports multiple aspect ratios (9:16, 1:1, 16:9), resolutions (720p, 1080p), and four camera styles. You can also create videos from travel photos using their EXIF location data, or use companion tools like Countries Visited Map, States Visited Map, Google Timeline Viewer, and Photo Map.

Shopper questions
Is my location data really private?
Yes. Your file is read and the video is rendered entirely on your device. The only network requests are for map tiles from the site's own map server; CARTO is used only as a fallback.
Which browsers are supported?
Chrome, Edge and Safari 16.4 or newer (iPhone and Mac) can create MP4 video. Firefox can preview but cannot export H.264 video yet.
How long does rendering take?
Usually one to three minutes for a 30-second video on a recent phone, longer for 1080p or long durations. Keep the tab open while it renders.
Can I create a video without a Timeline export?
Yes. If Timeline is off or empty, you can pick travel photos and the tool reads only their location and time from EXIF data on your device; nothing is uploaded. This works on iPhone and computers, but not on Android where photo locations are hidden from websites.
Is Timeline Visualizer affiliated with Google?
No. It is based on the MIT-licensed open-source google-timeline-visualizer project and is an independent rebuild. It is not affiliated with Google or the original author.
