Shutter Count Checker
Free tool to read camera shutter count from original photos locally on your device
A free web application that reads camera shutter count directly from original JPEG and RAW photo files on your device without uploading them.
About this launch

Shutter Count Checker is a free web application that helps photographers check the shutter count of their cameras by reading metadata from original photo files. The tool processes JPEG and supported RAW files locally in your browser without uploading anything to a server, keeping your photos and data private.
You can use it to verify how many times a camera's shutter has been activated before buying a used camera, selling your own equipment, or tracking your shooting activity. Simply select an original file from your camera's memory card, and the checker automatically detects your camera model and reads the shutter count alongside other available photo details like exposure time, aperture, ISO, and lens information.
The tool supports a wide range of camera models and file formats, with specific guidance for each. It clearly explains what each counter field means—whether it represents mechanical actuations, combined electronic and mechanical exposures, or an image count—and notes any limitations specific to your camera.

Shopper questions
What does a camera shutter count tell me?
A photo shutter count check reads the counter stored when that picture was taken, so checking a photo from an earlier date will show the camera's shutter count at that time, not the current count. It's important to read the label beside the shutter count, as different fields may measure mechanical actuations, a broader exposure counter, or an image count, which are not interchangeable.
Which files work with this shutter count checker?
The tool accepts original JPEG, TIFF-based files such as NEF, ARW, PEF, DNG and CR2, Fujifilm RAF, and selected single-frame Canon CR3 files, up to 256 MiB. If you shoot RAW and JPEG, keep both originals and try the format listed for your camera model first, as edited or re-shared copies may lose camera data.
Why is my shutter count not showing?
A missing shutter count does not mean zero. First check that you selected the original file from your camera card, not an edited export or copy that may have lost metadata. Try a fresh photo copied straight from your memory card in the listed format for your model to confirm whether your camera stores a shutter count field.
What is a good shutter count for a used camera?
There is no single good shutter count for every used camera. A shutter count alone cannot tell you how many shots remain or turn wear into a reliable health percentage. Combine the reading with a physical inspection of the equipment, testing of controls and autofocus, and asking about any repairs or video work before relying on the number to evaluate condition.
Is my photo uploaded for a shutter count check?
No. The shutter count checker reads your photo and its metadata in your browser and does not send them to us or switch to a cloud service. Your file stays unchanged, and only the report you explicitly save becomes a file on your device.
