It Was Never You is an iOS app that lets you rewrite your photo timeline by replacing one person with another in your selected photos. The app uses a three-step process: mark the person you want removed (the dissonant identity), choose who replaces them (the resonant identity), and select which photos to process. The results are returned to your library with no manual editing or cloning tools needed.

The company prioritizes privacy and security. Photos are screened on your device before upload, processed in the cloud, and automatically deleted from servers within 72 hours. The app requires no account or personal information—users get an anonymous device ID. Face data never leaves your device, and nothing is used for training or stored long-term. What happens to my photos on your servers?

Photos are uploaded only to be processed, then automatically deleted within 72 hours. They are never used for training, never shared, and never kept.

Can I use a photo of anyone as the resonant identity?

Only use photos of yourself or people who have agreed. You are responsible for the photos you rewrite. Photos where the dissonant identity appears to be a young child under 13 are refused, and sensitive content is filtered on your device before upload.

How long does a reCast take?

Small batches are processed quickly, but large timelines can take a while. You should keep the app open and plugged in for large jobs, and the app will send a notification when everything is ready.
